The 2012 edition of the global mechanization review set for November 7 to 11 in Bologna hits a record for exhibition area. A packed schedule of technical and policy meetings promoted by FederUnacoma, institutions and the leading specialized publishing groups.

EIMA International has committed the maximum trade fair area available for the 2012 edition of the great agricultural mechanization exposition scheduled for November 7 to 11 at the Bologna Fiera with the arrival of more than 1,700 manufacturing industries from forty countries. The exhibition areas in the Fiera’s permanent pavilions are filled to capacity which means five temporary facilities must be installed – all meeting the highest architectonic and functional standards – for meeting exhibiting companies’ demand for space. Data reported by the Events Office of FederUnacoma, the federation of manufacturers in the sector promoting and organizing the review, disclosed that the overall exhibition area will come to 119,000 m² for a 16% gain over space taken up by the 2010 edition. The area includes nearly 20,000 m² outdoors assigned to trials of machinery and equipment for the bioenergy production line and an ENAMA area focused on safe driving as well as dynamic demonstrations staged by a number of the exhibitor manufacturers. The exhibition itself will take over 140,000 m², an all-time record for EIMA, established in 1969 and now preparing for its fortieth edition.

As a purely technical and commercial event, EIMA International went on to become a point of reference in the policy, economic and cultural areas as well thanks to full schedules of conferences, congresses and workshops promoted by institutions, professional associations, companies in various merchandise categories and major publishing groups in the sector. The schedule of appointments is filling up day by day and will be completed only when the review is close at hand. Set up already, however, are the traditional FederUnacoma press conference on November 6, on the eve of the opening of the event, and a line-up of technical and policy meetings. Among theme are one on the theme Objective Safety: Complete Strategy Against Accidents in Agriculture on Thursday the 8th, sponsored by FederUnacoma working with Assosafety, ENAMA and INAIL, one focusing on European Union Directives 2009, 127 and 128, on Sustainability of Plant Treatment on Wednesday the 7th organized by FederUnacoma in cooperation with Agrofarma, another on Rural Lands at Risk: Proposals of Integrated Governance for Fragile Areas on Friday the 9th, again promoted by the federation of machinery manufacturers in cooperation with Promoverde and the publication Territori.

Among the other important events planned are one organized by specialized publication groups, the Tractor of the Year award ceremony on Wednesday the 7th, the trade fair opening day, sponsored by the magazine Trattori, another set up for the afternoon of the same day by Il Sole 24 Ore Media on Biogas and Biomass, New Incentives and New Income Opportunities, and a conference on Multifunctionality in Agricultural Mechanization sponsored by the Informatore Agrario and MAD for the morning of Saturday the 10th. In cooperation with the manufacturers federation, the publication Macchine e Trattori is organizing a conference on the issue Innovation and Design: the Evolution of the Cab set for the afternoon of Thursday the 8th. In the meantime, a large number of workshops and technical meetings will enliven the Il Sole 24 Ore area dedicated to sustainability in agriculture, to include meetings on plant treatment and sod seeding, flanked by encounters planned by the Informatore Agrario for a look at access to credit and the EU Machinery Directive. Also coming up are the presentation Thursday the 8th of the Osservatorio 2012 on innovations in farming sponsored by Agri 2000 and the meeting of the Club of Bologna on Friday and Saturday the 9th and 10th dedicated to strategies for the development of agricultural mechanization. Time will also be set aside for work on items of policy interest associated with the upcoming EU Common Agriculture Policy reform with political authorities and national and EU institutional representatives in attendance.
