These booms, which were initially available for widths of 12 and 15 metres, are now in 18, 21, 24 and 27 metre versions.
The justification of these large widths is simple: the growing tank capacities and pump flows require an adaptation of the spreading tools, which are fed homogeneously and without any difficulty.
From a technical point of view, the Multitwist is hinged on a strong chassis resting on the tanker linkage. The base of this boom itself rests on a 15-metre chassis which is modular at will for all types of tanks. From a working width of 18 metres, the Multitwist is a double-folding boom; an extra articulation is used for the two last elements of 1.50 m. With this configuration, the user can also work on a width of 21 metres, by adding two other 1.50 m elements. The principle is the same for the 24-metre boom which can easily reach 27 metres or can be reduced to 15 metres without unfolding the second articulation.
It is also possible, for any model, to reduce the working width by adding a ''cap'' to the elements at the end. A working width of 21 metres can therefore be reached with a 24-metre boom.
Technically speaking, the unfolding of the boom is in two steps: the "arms" are first unfolded on the whole width, then they pivot downwards (+/- 180°), allowing the implementation of the Twist® anti-drip system. In case of double folding, the arms at each end are unfolded by way of an extra articulation acting both as an unfolding and a Twist system. It is to be pointed out that the 18-metre Multitwist is available with both single and double folding system.
The passive slope position adjustment is part of the standard equipment of the Multitwist XXL. It makes the boom adaptive to ground unevenness. In option, an active slope position adjustment with hydraulic control is available.
The transport safety is thereby further improved thanks to the notches in which the boom is laid when folded. The pressure exerted by the linkage ensures a high stability.
