The kind of farmer you meet at Agritechnica is Thassilo von der Decken. Originally from Lower Saxony, in Germany, he now farms in Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea. South African farmer Ralf Küsel has won a trip to Agritechnica 2013. He farms in the Pongolo Valley Farming comprises 4100ha, split into 1700ha grain cropping, 2500ha cattle ranching and 250ha of timber. Cropping area is split equally between maize, soybeans and popcorn. Growing conditions have to be managed carefully as rainfall only occurs in summer and amounts to only 900mm on average. More.
