Council adopts fairer, greener and more performance-based farming policy for 2023-2027

At a meeting today the Council formally adopted the common agricultural policy (CAP) for the period 2023-2027. The new legislation paves the way for a fairer, greener and more performance-based CAP that seeks to ensure a sustainable future for European farmers, provide more targeted support to smaller farms, and allow greater flexibility for member states in adapting the measures to local conditions.

2022 EU budget: Council agrees its position

Member states’ EU ambassadors today agreed the Council’s position on the 2022 EU draft budget. In total, the Council’s position amounts to €167.7 billion in commitments and €170 billion in payments. The 2022 budget will be complemented by Next Generation EU funds designed to help boost the European economic recovery.

EU budget for recovery: Increased funding to support EU farmers and fishermen towards a green transition/economy

In its proposal for a reinforced long-term budget, the Commission will increase the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by €9 billion (€4 billion for the CAP's European Agricultural Guarantee Fund and €5 billion for the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development) and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) by €500 million.

Multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027

Finland’s Presidency has submitted its proposal for the next long-term EU budget, the multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2021–2027, to the member states. The proposal is a budget of €1 087 billion for the seven-year period, equal to 1.07% of the gross national income of the EU member states.
