The farmers can expect higher earnings with products from Cow-Welfare

Agro Napló
3 years after the introduction of the new GreenStall Easy version, the company Cow-Welfare from Denmark thinks, they can prove that you can earn money by changing to flexible stable equipment.

Those things which matters, especially in these days with declining milk prices, is to optimize the plant, to keep the expenses down. When the milking price is declining, it is often necessary to have a look on how you can increase your earnings. One opportunity is to change the cubicles.

Cow-Welfare now know a lot of farmers in different countries who are reporting about increased milk production, longer lifespan for the animals, better estrus, lower bedding and faster cleaning. Cow-Welfare has observed a part of these farmers through the years. The last year it has especially been focused on 4 farms, 2 in Denmark, 1 in Germany and 1 in Sweden. The smallest one is placed in Sweden. Father and son, Kennet and Lars Zetterlund. They have a Lely robot, and have built a new barn in 2010/11. Lars and Kennet are telling that several cows have produced more than 60 liters of milk per day, the cull rate has been decreased drastically and the cows are now producing more milk than before, even though they have converted to ecology.

You also notice that the cows are getting into estrus much better now, a cow which is more rested and without any marks and injuries is producing more milk and has a lower cull rate, Lars Zetterlund is concluding. The Danish farmer, Esben Larsen, choose to change the existing common cubicles with GreenStall Easy back in 2008. 3 month later the cows were producing 2,2 l more milk per cow per day, and today they are lying on a stable level of 35 liter milk per cow per day. He is using less time to clean the beds, the cows are always lying correctly, they do not have any marks or injuries any more, the oestrus conditions are improved strongly and the cull rate has decreased with 8%. If you look at it financially, you would quickly see that in this case Esben Larsen is earning between € 60.000 and 70.000. more per year with today’s milk prices for his 190 cows.

Esben Ravn Larsen additional comment:” Because of the flexibility GreenStall Easy is a unique system, which distinct delivers the best freedom to move in the free stalls. Cows are no longer stressed and afraid neither of lying down nor to stand up. There is also no equipment which is bothering and disturbing the cow in the resting time. The best experience for me was when a cow was running around in the whole barn; the cow was running in to a free stall and lay down in the same movement, without getting hurt. I call that freedom to move!!!”

MARAME Gbr., Marinda and Ralf Maier in Germany, have 200 cows. They had seen GreenStall Easy the first time at Haus Düsse, which is a school of agriculture. As they saw how the cows were lying in the cubicles, Ralf Mayer and his son also wanted GreenStall Easy. The Maier family has installed 120 pc of GreenStall Easy for 2½ years ago. Ralf Maier is telling, he loves to go through the stable in the evenings and to look at his stress less cows which are lying correctly in the cubicles. Stress less cows = stress less farmer. The resting time is increased essential; the average of producing milk for the whole herd is 32 liter per cow per day, but the cows which are lying in the GreenStall Easy cubicles are producing an average of milk of 37-38 liter per cow per day. Ralf Maier continues, I had an older cow which I thought were on its way out of the herd. When we mounted GreenStall Easy it was still producing milk, and we put it into a GreenStall Easy cubicle. It is now 2½ years since we have done this, the cow has calved twice, the third is on its way and the cow has produced 14.000 liter of milk per year. At the end Ralf Maier is telling, he is very open with changes, but nothing will be changed with GreenStall Easy, that is for sure. The family Maier was the first farm, which was buying GreenStall Easy in Hessen, that has changed; the company Brandau is selling GreenStall Easy quit well in all of Hessen area.

Tom Scholtens from Denmark has built a new barn in 2001. Tom is telling that he simply can’t understand why not all the farmers are buying GreenStall Easy. The cows are producing between 34-35 kilo milk per day. When the cows have calved they typically are producing 45 liter per day. The cell number is below 90.000 all the time, the resting time is extended, no marks or injuries, and the cow is lying very good in the cubicle and is manuring at the right place out on the floor.

You clearly see that the cows are calmer and total relaxed. Further Tom is telling that he now has used his money on cow comfort and not on a lot of unnecessary equipment. Real pleasure for the cow is also real pleasure for the farmer and the earnings. The cows of Tom Scholtens are also the lucky users of Flexible Green Feeding. An innovation which is being introduced at the Eurotier 2012.

Flexible Green Feeding - Innovation 2012 - Patent: PA 2012 70401

Flexible Green Feeding is a revolutionary way to feed animals indoor. The patented flexibility is following the cow out to the feeding table, there it does not feel any pressure from the equipment and at the same time, the tube over the head is kept away.

Flexible Green Feeding is the feeding place for the future

Flexible Green Feeding has several exceptional advantages:

- The cows are able to reach the feed further out on the feeding table

- Calmer animals during food consuming

- Differentiated feeding places

- Adjustable width

- Animal welfare, healthier animals

- No marks or injuries from the equipment

- Higher profit opportunities

Caused to the pleasant flexibility, the cows are staying longer at the feeding table, and are consuming more food. Most of the farmers are feeding app. 1/3 more at the section with Flexible Green Feeding. As the risk of injuries is gone by the new head locks the lifespan of the whole herd is increased.

The farmer Tom Scholtens, who has installed the Flexible Green Feeding is telling: It is very interesting to see the different between the traditional head locks and the Flexible Green Feeding. You can see very clearly which installation the cows prefer; the cows are staying longer at the new head locks and are eating longer and more intense, the resting time in the cubicles is extended caused to the cows feeling full.

There is no doubt, the new Flexible Green Feeding are increasing the well-being of the cows. What’s more interesting is when the cow is eating at the Flexible Green Feeding; it is lifting the head higher up, the food is then easier to consume. This posture is not possible at the traditional head locks. The stress level has also been reduced; I assume this is caused to the sense of freedom.
