Michelstadt, October 23, 2012 – The neutral international DLG Expert Commission at Euro Tier 2012 has awarded a silver medal to the silage film innovation POLYDRESS® O2 BARRIER 2IN1 from the division RKW ProAgri® (Agricultural Films and Nets). For the first time ever, according to the experts, the newly developed silage film combines the underlay film used to cover bunker silos with the silage film placed on top of it. Both films are attached to one another and only separate following application through the silage moisture. This not only eliminates one complete work step when covering silos, the reduced material consumption as well as storage and transport costs and the separate recycling of the two films also reduce the environmental impact, according to the DLG expert evaluation.
POLYDRESS® O2 BARRIER 2IN1 combines the world’s first polyethylene silage film with a polyamide underlay film and an oxygen barrier improved by a factor of 6 to 10. This new type of silage film from RKW ProAgri® is placed on the silage material in just a single work step. The adhesive polyamide underlay film allows the diffusion of moisture, but also forms a significantly improved oxygen barrier. It automatically separates after some time from the vapor-sealing silage film and adheres to the surface of the silage. Due to the improved oxygen barrier, reduced fermentation losses, and minimal mold formation, high-quality filling can be preserved in an exceptional and sustained manner.
The POLYDRESS® O2 BARRIER 2IN1 film combination is also just half as thick as a conventional cover consisting of two separate films. The 40% lighter film rolls can be easily transported, stored, and handled. By separating the silage from the underlay film, both materials can be sustainably disposed.
Tests in agricultural research centers and institutes (including LVZ Futterkamp, LAZBW Aulendorf, and the University of Bonn Teaching and Research Station, Frankenforst) in 2011 and 2012 confirm the excellent product and silage characteristics of POLYDRESS® O2 BARRIER 2IN1. Farmers from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and France, who have tested the film in agricultural practice, have also provided positive feedback.
