ENOVITIS IN CAMPO 2012 SUSTAINABILITY: FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE

Agro Napló
From practical demonstrations of applications of the Tergeo project – the sustainability model in wine-growing and wine-making promoted by the Unione Italiana Vini – for managing soil and vineyards with the least possible impact - to special themed areas: sustainability will be one of the main features of this original and unique trade fair where wine-growing machinery and equipment will actually be working in the vineyard itself.

From gauging sprayers for the correct application and distribution of agrochemicals to the comparison of techniques for working the soil, up to the use of renewable energy produced by the wine-growing and wine-making production cycle: technology and research for the management of the soil and above all the vineyard with the least possible impact will be the focus of the next Enovitis in Campo, due to be held at the Condé winery at Fiumana di Predappio in the province of Forlì-Cesena on 21 and 22 June.

In one word, sustainability in practice will be the main feature of this year’s original trade fair organised by the Unione Italiana Vini, the only trade fair where wine-growing and wine-making machinery and equipment can actually be seen at work in the vineyard. Tractors, sprayers, tillers, harrows, shredders, leaf strippers, trimmers, irrigation plants, etc., all the equipment can be viewed and “tested” at work in the vineyard. Also on show will be poles, wires, fertilizers, plant protection products, agricultural weather stations and all the products and services required to achieve quality wine-growing and wine-making.

Hence, one of the main features at Enovitis in Campo is the Tergeo project (www.tergeo.it) – the sustainability model in wine-growing and wine-making promoted by the Unione Italiana Vini – with the field demonstration of the applications proposed by partner companies and approved today by the technical-scientific committee and implemented in some wineries taking part in the event. Applications strongly focussing on the management of agrochemicals in the vineyard, as well as experimentation on the main agricultural and wine-growing phases such as the management of spontaneous flora in the vineyard.

This year there will also be an even better organisation of the exhibition, including the setting up of specific themed areas with particular attention to renewable energy. Biomass Energy – which was given a specific themed area called “the Energy Yard” in the 2010 fair – continues to be a very topical issue since the entire cycle for the production of energy from vine shoots is a real possibility for wineries to carry out independently, using the most suitable equipment for the cutting, swathing, collection and packing of vine shoots in the field, and subsequent chipping before sending the pellets to the boiler.

In addition, further experimentation on innovative subjects is currently being defined, details of which will be given in the next press releases.

In the meantime the organisation of the exhibition: exhibitors are still registering and so far there are various companies who were not present in previous years, a sign of the obvious importance of this trade fair for the industry. As regards visitors, the organising secretariat is proceeding with the organisation of group visits together with wine growers’ cooperatives and Consortiums.

All updates on the event are available on the site which will be entirely renewed over the next few weeks at www.enovitisincampo.it

The location

Set on the hills of Predappio, from 150 m a.s.l. to 350 m a.s.l., the Condé winery stretches over an area of 92 hectares, including 75 of vineyards. Formed from the grouping of nine estates, the winery is a feather in the cap of the province of Emilia Romagna. The idea to create the company to produce an important single-varietal Sangiovese wine in a specific area such as Predappio, came in 2001 to Francesco Condello. Today Condé, after experimenting for years with vines and production, challenges important national and international wines, producing just one label with its own name in its three versions, Doc, Superiore and Riserva. www.conde.it
